Bioinformatics is generally described as "stuff involving biology and computers". Sometimes it refers to probabilistic modeling, sometimes it refers to manipulating files containing sequencing, sometimes it refers to staring at web pages to interpret sequences. The great thing about it is that no one cares how relatively hard it is to perform these tasks, because we're all interested in finding out about bology.
